Reference metal prices
communiosocial.com fetches U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) import price indexes through the FRED® API. LBMA daily spot series were removed from FRED in January 2022; we scale BLS indexes to approximate USD per troy ounce for hobbyist ROI only.

Gems and minerals
Diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and similar materials are not priced from FRED. Gem and semi-precious ROI uses community reference prices from the price guide (member submissions on each material page).
Reference prices are computed with seniority weighting (activity rank 1–300, same as community validity votes). The lowest and highest 10% of price samples are trimmed before averaging. This is a hobbyist guide, not a gemological appraisal.
